The Early Years: How Terry Ward’s Love for Magic Began

Orlando magician Terry Ward has been wowing audiences with his stunning close-up and parlor magic for years.

In fact, Terry has spent more than three decades performing as a professional magician at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando. You might remember Terry as the headline act at the Diamond Horseshow Revue at the Magic Kingdom. You may also have seen Terry performing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These days, you might find Terry at The Great Magic Hall in Old Town in Kissimmee, Florida.

Terry’s talent grew as a young magician thanks to strong mentorship.

But where did this talented magician get his start? It turns out, Terry’s interest in magic was piqued early on by a magic set he received as a child.

“My first magic set really sparked my interest in magic,” Terry shared. “I remember the first trick I learned was a nickels-to-dimes effect, and seeing the looks on people’s faces when I did the trick was really fun.”

Terry’s love for magic only continued to grow from there, thanks in part to his first magician-mentor, Joe Goulard.

“Joe was really instrumental in my early years learning magic,” Terry said. “I learned most of my basics from him, and I was just glad he took an interest in my interest.”

Finding His Niche: Terry’s Passion for Close-up and Parlor Magic

As Terry continued to hone his craft, he discovered that his favorite kind of magic to perform was close-up and parlor magic.

“I like the intimacy of the art,” Terry explained. “I also like that it’s conversational and not presentational.”

It was this passion for close-up and parlor magic that led Terry to join Kostya Kimlat’s team of See Magic Live magicians.

Kostya invited Terry to perform at his Orlando Magic Mansion event, a once-annual magic festival produced by Kostya and See Magic Live in Downtown Orlando.

“It was such a pleasure to work with the talent that he had booked for the event,” Terry shared.

Since joining the team, Terry has been able to work his stage show more and experience different venues, but it’s the camaraderie among the See Magic Live team that really sets them apart.

“They’re just a class act of performers,” Terry said.

“I’ve always admired and been such a fan of Terry’s work,” Kostya explained. “I love to recommend him to our clients because I know that they’re going to have so much fun and love his comedy and interaction.”

Throughout his career, Terry has worked as an actor and improv artist, but it’s his love for magic that shines through in his performances. He’s even won the Woody Landers award, a special honor given at a magicians’ convention called TRICS to a magician who made the greatest difference in helping other magicians.

Overcoming Challenges: Terry’s Transition from Stage to Street Performer

Seen here performing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Terry always treats eats show like it’s his first show.

Of course, with any profession, there are challenges to overcome, and for Terry, one of the biggest challenges was going from working a stage show for six years to performing close-up street magic.

“It felt like a step back,” Terry shared. “But I just had to keep going and keep working on my craft.”

So, what sets Terry’s magic apart from other magicians? According to him, it’s all about his relationship with his audience.

“I really enjoy meeting my audience throughout the show,” Terry said. “It’s all about taking them out of their day-to-day working lives and entertaining and amusing them.”

For aspiring magicians, Terry’s advice is simple: always remember that your last show or your next show is always your first show.

“They should never be treated differently,” he said.

With his impressive talent and passion for magic, Terry Ward continues to inspire and influence audiences with his breathtaking performances.
